Frequently Asked Questions

The Music City Rodeo is Nashville's first and only PRCA Pro Rodeo, celebrating both country culture and the excitement of professional rodeo. Over three nights, more than 30,000 fans come together to experience classic rodeo events and live music in the heart of Nashville.

PRCA stands for Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the highest standard in rodeo competition. Events include:

Roughstock: Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, and Bull Riding

Timed: Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping, and Barrel Racing

In roughstock events, contestants ride for eight seconds using just one hand—one touch with the free hand to themselves, the animal, or equipment means disqualification. In timed events, the goal is to post the fastest time possible, with rope barriers and head starts keeping competition fair.

Riders grip a leather rigging with one hand and attempt to stay on a bucking horse for 8 seconds, relying on balance, strength, and technique to impress the judges.

Cowboys chase a steer on horseback before leaping onto it, using sheer strength and technique to wrestle the steer to the ground in the fastest time possible.

A highlight of any proper rodeo! This is an event where children ride a sheep across an arena.

A dynamic event where two cowboys work together—one roping the steer's horns (header) and the other roping its hind legs (heeler)—to secure the fastest time.

Often called the "classic" rodeo event, this competition challenges riders to stay on a bucking horse while holding onto a specialized saddle, showcasing both control and style.

A test of speed and precision, this event requires a cowboy to lasso a running calf, dismount quickly, and tie three of its legs together as fast as possible.

A high-speed race against the clock where cowgirls navigate their horse around three barrels in a cloverleaf pattern, aiming for the fastest, cleanest run.

One of the most thrilling events in rodeo, bull riders must hold onto a rope wrapped around a powerful bull and stay on for 8 intense seconds while avoiding a hard landing.
